Philanthropy Consultant – Fundraising

Working with our Executive Director and our board, this position is responsible for assisting in identifying, developing, and executing programs that will lead to new gifts and fundraising opportunities. This contractor position is responsible for many of the cultivation and solicitation activities that result in support for the organization. This is a remote contractor engagement, but will require meetings with prospects, networking, and in-person (as appropriate and safe) with team members.

Additional Details

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for donor cultivation, building relationships with prospective and current donors and responding to their requests for information and assistance. Expected to manage a group of 25 – 50 major and prospective donors over time.
  • Develop long term relationships with high-capacity donors. Able to develop relationships with a clear focus on closing and stewarding “high impact” gifts for the benefit of The Safe Community Project (MySafe:LA).
  • Create customized strategies for each prospect, including setting goals, objectives and a set of strategic efforts leading to closing both simple and complex gifts.
  • Responsible for tracking prospects, developing, and implementing strategies for cultivation and solicitation.
  • Work collaboratively with organization’s members to ensure a consistent message and a clear approach to telling the MySafe:LA story.
  • Skillful in working with the MySafe:LA team, volunteers, and other members of the community to identify and appropriately contact new potential high-capacity donors.
  • Ensures a thorough and well-organized prospect and donor management system that supports accurate and appropriate record keeping and communication and ensures personal acknowledgment of gifts and pledges within 48 hours.
  • Makes public presentations as necessary and represents MySafe:LA to community organizations and other constituencies.
  • Demonstrates effective people skills including providing support, training, delegation, problem solving, organization, and coordination.
  • Enforces safety policies and procedures and safe practices.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices. Knowledge of fundraising volunteer management and recognition.
  • Competent and caring leader who is articulate and influential in helping people work together to meet challenging goals.
  • Able to excel in both cultivating personal relationships and ensuring good business practices. Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people required, including Board members, volunteers, community leaders, the public in general and MySafe:LA team members.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and contacts with a broad range of community, business, and professional leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, to set and achieve goals with a high degree of initiative, self-direction, and self-supervision. The ability to gather and synthesize appropriate information and recommend a course of action.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Detail and deadline orientation is required.
  • Ability to represent the organization effectively in the community. Public speaking skills are required.
  • Proficiency with computers software, including word processing, spreadsheet, and project management options.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience: 5 years Management experience, development, or marketing; preferably in a not-for-profit environment.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Coursework/Training – Completion of specific fundraising training or evidence of hands-on experience as a successful fundraiser.

Experience:

  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Health care experience.
