Fireworks are not harmless.
They will burn you. They can injure you. They start fires. They can even kill you – or someone you know.
In the City of Los Angeles, it is illegal to use, possess, sell, give, or discharge fireworks — including sparklers, firecrackers, bottle rockets, aerial fireworks, and so-called “safe and sane” fireworks.
A few seconds of fireworks can end with an ambulance, a fire engine, an emergency room, or worse.
Don’t light fireworks. Don’t be next.
For years, MySafe:LA has asked people to think about their neighbors. That still matters. Illegal fireworks frighten children, older adults, pets, and veterans. They disrupt entire neighborhoods.
Let’s be clear: If you’re using fireworks, you’re not paying attention.
Fireworks are illegal. Fireworks are dangerous. Fireworks are sending people to hospitals and starting fires in communities just like ours.
Every year, people lose fingers, hands, eyesight, homes, and lives because someone thought fireworks were no big deal. They are a big deal.
Don’t be the next person injured. Don’t be the next person responsible for a fire. Don’t be the next call to 911. All fireworks means all fireworks. There is no “safe” personal firework in Los Angeles.
The only legal way to enjoy fireworks in Los Angeles is at a permitted professional public show. Drone displays are another safe, legal way to celebrate.
If you are visiting Los Angeles for a holiday, match, concert, championship event, or celebration, remember: the law may be different here. Personal and professional fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles unless used by certified professionals at public shows.
Across the United States, fireworks send thousands of people to emergency rooms every year. Many injuries involve hands, fingers, faces, eyes, and burns. Some people never fully recover.
Fireworks also start fires. A single ember can ignite dry grass, a palm tree, a roof, a car, a hillside, or an entire home.
In Los Angeles, that danger is not theoretical. Fireworks have caused major fires, critical injuries, and deaths. Firefighters and paramedics see the consequences long after the noise stops.
Using fireworks can cost more than a fine.
It can cost a hand. An eye. A home. A life.
Don’t be next.
Illegal fireworks are a community safety problem. Reporting helps identify where fireworks are being used, when activity is increasing, and where outreach and enforcement may be needed.
Use F/X Reporter to document fireworks activity in your neighborhood.
F/X Reporter is for documenting fireworks activity and building a better picture of where fireworks are being used. It is not a substitute for emergency services.
A yard sign will not stop every illegal firework, but it can help set expectations before someone lights the fuse.
Download the free MySafe:LA anti-fireworks sign, print it locally, and place it where neighbors can see it.
ALL FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN LOS ANGELES. THEY INJURE. THEY KILL. THEY START FIRES. DON’T BE NEXT.
Fireworks belong in permitted public displays — not in backyards, streets, parking lots, alleys, parks, or hillsides.
Plan ahead. Attend a professional fireworks show or drone display. Enjoy the celebration without risking your hands, your home, your neighbors, or your future.
Public service messages from MySafe:LA will show what happens when illegal fireworks become emergency calls — ambulances, fire engines, hospital visits, and consequences that cannot be undone.
