Your LAFD and MySafe:LA Are Coming to Central L.A.

The MySafe:LA smoke alarm installation team.

On Saturday September 19, your LAFD and MySafe:LA are coming to Central L.A. with another weekend smoke alarm installation canvasing operation! This event will include the LAFD’s Operation West Bureau Fire Station 52, and will be joined by MySafe:LA’s EDU 2 and EDU 3 fire safety education teams.

The canvassing effort is part of a groundbreaking smoke alarm initiative started in 2014 by MySafe:LA and the Los Angeles Fire Department. So far, more than 6,700 smoke alarms and  220 carbon monoxide detectors have been installed in nearly 1,000 homes all over the city.

We’ve found broken and out-of-date smoke alarms in every type of neighborhood in LA,” said MySafe:LA Executive Officer David Barrett. “We don’t care if you’re rich or poor, if you need a new battery for one alarm, or five brand new alarms and a CO detector. We’ll provide the alarms and install them, for free. We just want residents to be safe.”

Two MySafe:LA staffers install a smoke alarm in a house in Los Angeles. So far, the group has installed over 6,700 alarms in nearly 1,000 LA homes.
Door hangers will be placed on all 83 homes in the section of North Kenmore Ave between Melrose and Santa Monica Boulevard on September 12, one week before the smoke alarm canvassing event, to let residents know about the free smoke alarm installations being offered the following week. On September 19, starting at 10:00 AM, firefighters from Fire Station 52 and specially-trained professional installers from MySafe:LA will begin knocking on doors, asking residents if they would like a free safety inspection of their homes and free installation of new alarms if needed. Mark your calendars and get ready to have your neighborhood firefighters and MySafe:LA fire educators come by for a visit.
Not going to be home, September 19? Make an appointment by visiting www.mysmokealarm.org or call 1-844-38-ALARM. Oh, you can make an appointment for a home safety inspection and free smoke alarms no matter where you live in California!
