MySafe:LA Supports the LAFD With S.A.F.E Program

Firefighters and MySafe:LA members pose for a photo.

MySafe:LA, the fire and life safety education partner of the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to two fatality fires in just a week’s time. Both fires, within a few miles of one another hit just prior to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, and had a significant impact on the neighborhoods where the loss of life occurred. The program developed in 2014 by MySafe:LA and the LAFD is called Smoke Alarm Field Education, or SAFE, and is deployed whenever there is a fatality fire in the City.

Working in collaboration with the LAFD Bureau Command offices, public education officers, working in collaboration with firefighters walk the streets directly adjacent to the fatality fire building remains. Firefighters knock on doors, introduce MySafe:LA and answer residents questions.

MySafe:LA members then install FREE smoke alarms, CO detectors, and provide educational information on how to escape a fire, call 911, and to secure an outside safe meeting place. In these unfortunate circumstances, neighbors expressed gratitude for the work provided by MySafe:LA and the LAFD. At the end of the day, dozens of homes were made safer, just in time for the holidays.
