MySafe:LA Supports Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment

William Whitney and David Barrett speak at a DONE event.

The Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (known as DONE) is one of the most interesting departments in the City of Los Angeles. It supervises 100 community managed entities, called Neighborhood Councils, which essentially act as a local sub-set of Los Angeles City governance. MySafe:LA is now working to support DONE via work with individual councils throughout Los Angeles.

The NC concept is extremely important and it drives the concept of community resilience forward,” MySafe:LA Executive Officer David Barrett explained. “Our organization is all about localizing disaster preparedness and resilience messaging, so collaborations with NCs is an essential part of our commitment to Los Angeles.”

MySafe:LA will share data with NCs, including elementary and high schools visited, smoke alarm and community canvassing performed, as well as teaching NC members CPR, use of an AED, and what to do in the event of an active shooter incident.
