Junior Fire Inspectors Save Lives

Today, MySafe:LA graduated a class of 4th and 5th grade students as new Junior Fire Inspectors. This class, part of an east Los Angeles LAUSD campus, is special. To be more specific, every class that graduates is special. Some, a bit more than others. In this case, a student came up to the microphone during the class graduation and shared that just a week earlier, his family experienced a fire in the kitchen of their home. Based on the training he had received – and shared with his parents, they were able to smother the fire, and to exit the home, safety and quickly. It’s just another minor credit that demonstrates the MySafe:LA elementary school program delivers results.

Another perk every class gets it to visit with their local (first in, or first due) fire company. The Los Angeles Fire Department has been a partner for MySafe:LA more more than a decade. Part of that relationship is to support our school programs be providing firefighters on graduation day for deserving students.

This class not only got to learn about how firefighters use the tools on their fire engine, they had an extra special guest: LA Fire Commissioner Jimmy Woods-Gray attended, and in fact handed out the Junior Fire Inspector ID cards. Her presence added to an already special day. Thank you commissioner!!!
