Giving Tuesday Now Will Help Support MySafe:LA

MySafe:LA teaching CPR

Hello, everyone –

This May 5th, #GivingTuesdayNow arrives, and it isn’t a moment too soon. The events of the past five months have literally turned the world upside down. As the spread of COVID-19 has impacted nearly every country across the globe, here in Los Angeles, MySafe:LA has continued to push our mission of creating a more resilient community forward.

We’ve switched some of our live presentations to an online webinar format, have introduced some new podcasts, and have worked to ensure that our messages get out, while also supporting the health and well-being of our members and their families. It’s working, too – as people have embraced our food “Home Delivery Playbookwebinar, our new “Everything is Okay” and Spanish and Armenian language podcasts, and our webinar outreach to older adults and our Junior Fire Inspectors.

As we enter the month of May, we’re looking forward to reintroducing some of our field operations, including  canvassing at-risk communities, installing FREE smoke and CO alarms, as well as engaging in other fire and life safety activities. Our tactics will be different, as we’ll be maintaining safe contact procedures, and our teams will utilize masks, eyewear, gloves and booties when working to install alarms and provide education to those most at risk in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, even with people at home, house fires don’t stop, and there have been three fatality fires in just the past few weeks in Los Angeles. Working to reduce injuries and fatalities as a result of fire is one of our core mission objectives, and when we see this type of thing occur, it saddens every one of our members.

We’ve also been impacted, with lost revenue, the need to maintain our members ability to survive, and to continue our mission. We don’t ordinarily reach out to the public to ask for support, but it’s worth noting that we take no funds from our fire department partners, and as such, we survive on grants and gifts.

I’d like to ask that you consider making a gift to MySafe:LA this year. In fact, for us, #GivingTuesdayNow is really a daily need, and anything you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Your gift will go towards providing our members with proper protective equipment, purchasing and distributing emergency GO bags to older adults, as well as purchasing smoke alarms to install in at-risk homes and to provide to our student Junior Fire Inspectors.

Thank you in advance for considering helping us. You’ll be investing in your own community, and in our ability to continue the work we care so deeply about.

Respectfully,

David Barrett
