Earthquakes are no Laughing Matter

Upturned Highway Due to Earthquake

We get it … you’re too busy to worry about getting prepared for the next earthquake — unfortunately, ignoring the warnings about earthquakes is no laughing matter.

You know that scientists and public officials say it’s not a matter of if, but when California is hit by a significant, damaging, if not devastating earthquake. They say we’re way overdue for such a seismic event on the southern portion of the San Andreas Fault, which is capable of producing a magnitude 7 earthquake. They say we need to get prepared to survive and recover, and that we need to get prepared now.

Well, we’ve all got to get to work, get the kids to school, manage the home, and somehow squeeze in some time for ourselves. Earthquake Preparedness can wait. But, can we afford to put it off? April is Earthquake Preparedness Month, so let’s do at least one thing to get more prepared for the temblor that could rock our world. Let’s make a kit, for our home, for our work, and for our car.

Now, we could make your eyes glaze over by providing you with a laundry list of all the things you need to get and put together in an earthquake survival kit, but we thought we’d show you instead.

Now, that wasn’t so bad, was it? You really can get more prepared with just a few key items and a little foresight. Make it a family activity, and you and the kids will be a little less worried about the possibility of  earthquakes if you have the essential supplies on hand when you need them.
