MySafe:LA Shines at 2025 Fleet Week: Promoting Safety, Service, and Community Resilience

Over Memorial Day Weekend 2025, the Los Angeles waterfront came alive with the sights and sounds of Fleet Week, a cherished annual tradition that celebrates the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard while fostering meaningful connections between service members and the communities they protect.

Held at the Port of Los Angeles, Fleet Week offers Angelenos a rare and up-close look at active-duty naval ships, alongside live military demonstrations, flyovers, and interactive exhibits. However, the event is more than just a showcase of American maritime strength—it’s a unique opportunity for local public safety agencies to collaborate with the military in promoting service, preparedness, and safety education.

A Coordinated Safety Showcase

Among the most visible and engaging participants this year was MySafe:LA, a key member of the public safety coalition that supports Fleet Week. In collaboration with the Los Angeles City Fire DepartmentCERT, the Los Angeles Police Department, and other partner organizations, MySafe:LA presented a comprehensive public safety exhibit designed to educate and empower visitors with life-saving knowledge.

The interactive booth, situated in the heart of the Fleet Week Expo, welcomed thousands of guests over the long weekend.

Teaching CPR, Installing Smoke Alarms, Saving Lives

A significant highlight of MySafe:LA’s 2025 Fleet Week engagement was its hands-only CPR training. Led by the organization’s team of certified EMTs and educators, these sessions trained several hundred attendees in just a few minutes each, ensuring that more Angelenos are equipped to respond confidently and quickly in the event of a cardiac emergency.

Additionally, MySafe:LA staff conducted fire safety outreach and scheduled dozens of in-home smoke alarm installation appointments, targeting residents in high-risk communities. These efforts are part of the organization’s broader campaign to reduce residential fire fatalities and ensure that every home in Los Angeles is equipped with working smoke alarms.

Spreading Awareness About Fireworks Dangers

With the Fourth of July fast approaching, MySafe:LA also used Fleet Week as a platform to convey a critical message about fireworks safety. Fireworks are illegal in the City of Los Angeles, and MySafe:LA worked alongside fire officials to raise awareness about the dangers they pose—especially in the city’s wildfire-prone areas. Visitors received educational materials and practical alternatives to fireworks, offering safe and festive celebrations.

Giving Back to the Community

To thank the public for participating and to encourage engagement, MySafe:LA gave away thousands of dollars in prizes throughout the event. From emergency kits to smoke alarms and CPR tools, the giveaways supported the theme of community resilience while drawing attention to key safety practices.

Strengthening the Bridge Between Civilians and Service

Fleet Week exemplifies the spirit of collaboration between military service and civilian support, and MySafe:LA’s participation serves as a reminder that community safety is a shared responsibility. By uniting Navy personnel, local responders, and engaged residents, the 2025 event was not only a celebration of national service but also a call to action for everyday heroes here at home.
