We tend to think of Los Angeles as a perpetually sunny place. While often true, the risk of flood is even greater because we're so comfy in the sunshine, and dark, rainy days are so rare. But, due to the potential for wind-driven wildfires, the opportunity for mud and flood damage is significant. Use this section to learn more about flood preparation and survival.

    We typically don't think of floods in Los Angeles. Yes, as most of Los Angeles is surrounded by hills and mountainous terrain, the potential for flooding is actually quite serious. The Santa Monica mountains split the city, and are filled with canyons and plenty of areas where flooding can take place. And, finally, along Pacific Coast Highway, there are numerous areas where the cliffs have little capability of holding significant quantities of water.

The USGS reports a 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurred this morning in the greater Los Angeles area. The quake, which hit at 4 a.m. PDT,  was centered about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, near Pico Rivera. No injuries have been reported as a direct result of the quake. Are you earthquake ready?
