There's a wildfire reported ten miles from your home, and although the wind is blowing in your direction, the fire seems to be a long way off. Shortly after the column of smoke can be seen, police drive down your street, telling you to pack your valuables, pets, and children and to evacuate. What do you do?
Wildfires are unlike any other type of fire. They are unpredicable, fast moving, and extremely dangerous. The worst thing about a wildfire is that is can appear to be calming down, ready to die out, when suddenly - it will literally explode and take off like a runaway freight train. That's why the Los Angeles Fire Department urges you to take evacuation orders seriously. When asked to leave, pack up and head to a friend, relative, or designated emergency shelter.
