Every Los Angeles Fire Station Welcomes Visitors
Your Los Angeles City Fire Department provides emergency fire and life safety services in all 106 stations located throughout the city. Each fire station has a district, called a "first in" - it's the area that fire station will respond to first in an emergency. Each district is defined so emergency services can reach you within five minutes of you calling for help. Firefighters pride themselves on getting out of the station within one minute. Some fire station's first-in district is more vertical (lots of high-rise buildings), than horizontal (square miles of a district). Fire Station 9, shown above, is the busiest fire station in the United States. Yet, it covers a district (including downtown high-rises and skid row) that is only one square mile.
If you'd like to visit a fire station, you're always welcome. But the best plan is to call ahead. Firefighters in L.A. are constantly studying or drilling (practicing), so they can be best prepared when you need them. If you just drop in, they may be on a call, or in the middle of a drill.

NOTE: Later this year, MySafe:LA will offer personal safety profiles that will automatically populate a map of your neighborhood and profile the area with critical information, including your neighborhood's first-in fire station.
