Fire and life safety is something we all need to be aware of. The idea that “it can’t happen to me,” is a common-enough attitude until a disaster actually does happen to you. And no one is immune. We can’t avoid disasters. We can only prepare for them.
Proper preparation and practice not only reduce the risk of injury or death, but also make dealing with disasters more manageable. If you know what to do when something catastrophic occurs, you’re more likely to survive, and your family’s recovery will be that much quicker.
MySafe:LA targets elementary-aged students and teaches them fire and life safety skills because they often turn around and bring those messages home to their parents.
We teach fire and life safety to older adults because we value everyone at every age, and our older adult population is often forgotten as not being part of a productive society. We know first hand that that’s nonsense. We want to help change that perception and our vibrant older adult students do that every day.
If you’re a parent, older adult, teacher, CERT member, neighborhood council member or just a vibrant, Los Angeles resident, we’d love to get to know you, and have you get to know us.
We encourage you to watch our videos, look through our programs, and let us know what we can do to help you and your family be better prepared. Our techniques and practices are unlike the boring overly formulaic messaging you’ve likely heard from others. We’ll help you not only become better prepared, but we’re positive you’ll enjoy the process.
And if you’re interested in becoming a MySafe:LA volunteer, we encourage you to reach out. Contact us at volunteer @ mysafela dot org
