Inside a Rescue

Most of us have never been inside an ambulance, and that's a good thing. But ambulances are fascinating vehicles, designed to get emergency personnel to you quickly in the case of an emergency, and to equipped those emergency workers with all the items they'll need to keep you alive until you arrive at a hospital.

The Los Angeles Fire Department uses two types of rescue ambulances, including basic life support (BLS) staffed by firefighter/EMTs, and advanced life support (ALS) units, staffed by firefighter/paramedics. Learning about the content of an ambulance can be fun, and will give you confidence that in the event you need emergency assistance, you'll get the help you need.

In the event of a traffic accident or unknown illness, depending on the specific information provided, the LAFD will dispatch resources to investigate and render medical aid. In the event of CARDIAC ARREST, Heart Attack, or other significant emergency, the LAFD will ensure appropriate manpower is involved. Learn about the response timeline in the event of a Cardiac Arrest.

Get Ready, Get Set, GO! - A wildfire is unlike any other type of fire. It's not contained in a building. It's subject to the wind, the fuel load, and the topology of the area in which it is burning. As a wildfire grows, it can create its own "climate" and change direction, speed, and ferocity. Don't get surprised and worse, trapped. When authorities say, "evacuate," do it.
